You finally made up your mind to get yourself a new television but you cannot decide whether to buy a plasma or an LCD TV. Manufacturers have already improved the built of the plasma to level up with LCD. When buying, you might want to consider the glare, screen size, and the refresh rate. These are some guidelines that might help you decide what kind of TV to buy.
1. Size of the Screen
If you want a large screen, plasma is the answer. Plasma TVs are built to be large. As big as 50 inches while the LCD technology is still trying to catch up with this size, and vice versa, since plasma manufacturers will soon be releasing 32-inch televisions. If you prefer a small screen television, you can get an LCD.
2. Ambient Light from the Room
Is the room where you will be placing your TV dark or brightly lit? Yes, this should be considered because of the factor of ambient light. Light is one of the vital factors to consider when choosing between an LCD and a plasma television. In a bright rooms, the LCD TV performs better than a plasma. A plasma delivers a lower quality of image when it is in a bright room. This is due to the ambient light which is being reflected on your screen. But this has now become a slight problem that plasma television manufacturers have found a way to solve it. Anti-glare screens are now being used with plasma televisions which has greatly reduced the effect of the ambient light on the image quality produced. Manufacturers have found a way to put a special treatment to the glass panel of the plasma screen so that it has the ability to resist the reflections and the glare from the ambient light. If you often watch TV with the lights on, it is advisable to use a plasma. But when you will be watching mostly in a dimly lit room, you can get an LCD or a plasma with anti-glare coating. In this way, the surrounding lights in the dark room will not be reflected in your screen.
3. Refresh Rate
If you just love watching movies or shows that are fast paced, plasma will be more appropriate for you because it has a faster refresh rate. If you watch these high speed scenes in an LCD TV, you will most likely see some blurring at the edge of the image. For gaming purposes however, it is wiser to have the LCD TV because it has no chances for burn-ins. There are now LCD TVs with lower response time. As low as five milliseconds. What you should be looking for is a high refresh rate and a crystal clear picture.
